Day 56: Assisi- Vienna
This morning we had a walking tour around Assisi. Wa saw the most amazing old architecture it was so hard for me to put down my camera. There were balconies with beautiful flowers or vines draping down. I was fascinated by the door ways and alleyways of Assisi.
We then walked to the St Francis Basilica. This is where the body of St Frances is buried in a tomb on the bottom level. You couldn't take photographs inside the church or near the tomb of st Frances. When we went in the tomb of St Frances they were having mass so they were singing and praying. It was so busy but it was a beautiful ceremony. We walked around the church the artwork on the walls were incredible. The artist drew out St Frances life cycle. It was so interesting. To the Italians he was a sign of Christ.
We then made our way back to the coach and driving 5 hours to Vienna. The site from the coach was incredible. When we got to Vienna we had to get on a water boat to get to the hotel. Our hotel had a really nice lobby but our room was pretty small, the aircon wasn't great and it smelt really bad.
We then got on the gondolas and sailed around the alleyways of Vienna. It was beautiful and so relaxing. They hired musicians to sing for us. It was so amazing !!
After the gondola ride we had free time to grab some food. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Vienna. After dinner we had to walk a bit to get to where we were picking up the boat. As it was night time now the street lights and all the building lights were lit and it was beautiful to photograph. We then headed back on a boat to the hotel but instead of going the scenic way they took us near the port.
We didn't get back to the hotel till around 9:30. We then decided to have an earlier night because we have a really full on day tomorrow. And plus its going to be one of the hottest days in Italy for a while!!!
