Day 51: Rome
Today we checked out of our hotel and walked around the ancient ruins that surround the Colosseum called the Palatino.
We then walked down to the Tiber River to find this island called Isola Tiberina. Which acts like a walkway across both sides of the lake.
There were so many pretty alleyways I saw while we were walking. It was so hard to capture the beauty of the buildings and the atmosphere that was happening around.
We then walked back towards the Piazza Venezia. We encountered more ancient ruins while we were walking. We saw Segway tours which i've always wanted to do maybe next time!!
We then caught a taxi to where we are meeting our Trafalgar group. The hotel is called hotel Tiberio It was a good 20 minute drive. I'm so glad for the beginning of the tour we stayed in town more because it would have costed lots of money getting taxis to and from each time.
We met up with our tour guide called Pino. He seems like a really organised and friendly guy. We met the rest of the group down in a meeting area of the hotel. There are 55 of us on this tour. I was worried there were going to be lots of old people but there are mixed ages and families which is good.
Then Pino Took us on a orientation drive in our bus around Rome. We stopped off at the Piazza del Popolo Which was incredible! This is where the other pillar from Luxor temple in Egypt is held. As part of an alliance they got the pillar and Egypt got a roman clock which is in their main mosque. I'm so glad we got to see this place today because we wouldn't have had a chance to see it if we didn't. There was a beautiful church with amazing art work on the roof and the walls. The statues outside in the square are stunning!! It was nice to be able to take photographs and here the background behind all of the statues.
After our drive we got back to the hotel and had a welcoming meal. Tomorrow we are heading to the st peters cathedral and we have the chance to do two optional activities.
