Day 53:
Today we headed off to the Vatican Museum which is the home of the Sistine Chapel. The building was incredible you could take photographs in the museum but as soon as you went into the Sistine Chapel you could not take photographs. The museum had ancient roman statues made out of marble. They had huge wall sized rugs of religious and ancient drawings. The roofs were incredible in the museum with paintings that actually looked 3D and they looked like statues popping out from the roof. The detail of the artwork was incredible!!
When we got in the church the first thing you saw were the painting Michael Angelo drew for the pope. His artwork was the roof and the wall that was behind the pope. The roof was incredible and he painted this one first it took him 4 Years to complete. Then around 10 years after he painted the roof they asked him to paint the wall at the back of the church. This wall took him 6 years to complete. The details in his artwork is incredible!! It's a shame we couldn't take any photographs but we did buy some postcards of the artwork.
After the Vatican Museum we were off on our journey to Sorento. It was around a 3 hour drive.
The optional activity we could do in Sorento was a Lunch with a woman called Maria. She is famous for her pizza and making cheeses. The house we went to was a typical farm house with cows, geese and vegetables growing everywhere. It was a beautiful area to spend lunch. We watched Maria make buffalo cheese which we tasted on our pizzas afterwards. They got two volunteers up to create margarita pizzas.
Then we sat down on tables and waited until our food to come they made me a gluten free Margarita pizza which was pretty good. We sat having wines and lemonchello with a nice view of houses on the hills.
We had to make our way to a Ferry that took us to Capri. The ferry ride was 45 minutes long and the view from the boat was incredible of the buildings in Sorento.
We arrived in capri and then had to get a cable car all the way up the mountain to where all the designer shops are. This area was so posh and it was stunning!! It made me wish I was rich for once.
We got to the hotel Tiborio in Capri at 6. Which didn't get us lots of time to unpack. We put on our bathers then went for a nice relaxing swim. Then had showers and got ready for dinner.
After dinner we decided we wanted to take a walk around the shops. There was this ice cream place that made their own waffle cones that are the most famous ice cream place in Capri. People would line up for ages just to get an ice cream. Everything looked so different at night time the shops were still all open and lit up. We got a little disorientated because we ended up getting a bit lost on our way back to the hotel.
Tomorrow we are heading on a boat around the coast of Capri and to see some of the small grottos.
