Day 5: ASWAN
Today we arrived in Aswan at 10 am but we had been in a bus since 5 pm last night. Luckily my boyfriend is super squishy so I slept on him the entire time hahah poor him!!
Our cruise ship is called Miss Essadora. It has a pool up the top with sun beds everywhere. The pool was pretty small. We had an hour just to find our rooms and organise ourselves. We then went back on the bus traveled 20 minutes to the Philae Temple.
We went on a motor boat on the Nile to get to the temple. The Philae Temple was so amazing. It has carvings from the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks from thousands of years ago. There were heaps of hidden passages and it was beautiful.
The Egyptian island of Philae was the centre for worship of the goddess Isis and attracted pilgrims from all over the ancient world. The original island is now completely submerged under the waters of Lake Nasser. But in a spectacular rescue operation, the great temples and monuments of Philae were pulled out of the water and re-erected on a nearby island, now renamed Philae.
After the temple we went back to the cruise ship had another few hours there just to relax then we were off to a essence factory. They showed us how to create the little glass bottles and the machinery they use to get the liquid out of flowers to create the essence it was fascinating. They told us that major perfume companies buy the essence from them then create it into perfume by adding oils and alcohol. Some of these main companies are Dior, Calvin Kline, Chanel, Hugo boss Ect.
After the essence factory we heading to the local markets near Aswan. There wasn't anything that special just lots of nuts, fruits and souvenirs. I wanted to get pants that i could wear because i've been living in my leggings. There wasn't too much clothing I was interested in but this one shop had some pants for 105 Egyptian pounds. But didn't get them I went to another shop found a maxi skirt. They wanted 600 Egyptian pounds for it and I was like you gotta be joking no more than 100. We spent about 10 minutes bartering and in the end I got it for 100 woohhhh I felt soo proud hahah. I wasn't that impressed with the markets the locals were so pushy and rude.
After the markets had an hour till dinner so headed back to the cruise. After dinner just had an early night because tomorrow we have to wake up at 3 am to go on a bus to another temple.
Stay tuned if you want to hear all about my long day tomorrow!! Xx
