Day Forty Two

Day 42: Cape Town 

Today we woke up to get ready for our shark cage diving experience. We arranged with the company someone to pick us up from our hotel. The van came and picked us up at 7:20. Then we headed off to another hotel to pick up 3 Canadian girls. 

Once we collected everyone we headed off on our two hour journey to Kleinbaai harbour in Gansbaai which is where the shark company office is. Half way through the drive we had a quick stop to grab some hot drinks or food. The beginning of the day was horrible so overcast and started to rain while we were driving. When we were driving there were so many incredible opportunities to take photographs of the mountains and the view of the ocean. 

We reached the shark cage diving office then had quick breakfast and had to fill out some forms. Then we had to watch a safety video. The company we went with was called Great white shark cage diving. They are one of the top companies to do shark swimming. They only allow 20 people on the boat which means we had more exclusive experience in the water with the sharks.

We then started loading onto the boat which is taking us in the cage. Andrew and I chose to go up the top of the boat. This was probably one of the wettest part of the boat. When we were moving on the ocean there were so many huge waves we would have to try to go over. It was one bumpy drive.

We were the first lot of people to go In the shark cage. The water was absolutely freezing!!! It took a while for the sharks to come towards the bait but eventually there was a shark that would not give up and kept trying to attack the bait. It was so incredibly quick and the water was really murky so sometimes you couldn't see where the shark was. One time the shark hit the cage with his tail and it completely freaked the hell out of me !!! Andrew and I were so excited to see sharks that we went in the cage 4 times!! Even though the water was freezing it was worth the risk of getting frost bite!!

Well thats another thing ticked off the bucket list going swimming with sharks!! It was incredible and I highly recommend going shark cage diving if your ever in Cape Town!!
