Day Thirty Six

Day 36: Zimbabwe: Antelope park

Last night I couldn't get much sleep because it was freezing and I just could not get comfortable. I just kept waking up In the middle of the night thinking I was hearing animals noises. One time I woke up to a whimpering sound! I thought it was a wild dog. It wasn't until the morning I found out it was Andrew hahah!!!

In the morning when we were putting down our tents we could hear lions roaring in the bushes it was sooo cool!! The worker said they were pretty close which freaked out most people but they wouldn't run the camp site if it was safe you know!!

We then headed to the bar for breakfast. After breakfast we headed straight to the truck to leave as early as possible so we get to antelope park earlier to spend more time there. We got to antelope park for 2 and then had a late lunch before a guide came to tell us about what activities we could do that afternoon. Andrew and I decided to do the lion encounter and walking with the lions.

At the lion encounter there were 115 lions that have either been bred or rescued. The guide told us how when they rescue the lion they do release them when there ready. Most of the lions they had them since they were cubs so they can't be released because they have been dependent on humans for too long that if they go out in the wild they won't survive most likely. It's a cool place you can do a internship or you can volunteer to help with the animals at antelope park.

After the lion encounter tour we went on the lion walk. There were two one year old cubs that were beautiful. The male was called Africa and the female was called Alika. They were brother and sister and you could tell that they just loved each other they wouldn't stop playing with one another. They would lay in elephant poo and just roll in it and play with one another. We all tried to get walking shots with the lions and individual photographs while they were laying down. But the annoying thing was that there was a family of Asian people that always got the photographs before our group. So when the lion got tired we missed out again!!!!! I actually had to say something to the guy because it was not fair they were getting amazing photographs and we just weren't! But over all it was so amazing to be able to walk and pat with these two cubs. They reminded me of my dog Ralph I always say that he is my lion!

Tomorrow we are on the road again and leaving Zimbabwe and heading to South Africa. Apparently the boarder takes around 2-4 hours to get through. Wish me luck!

Xx
