Day Thirty Five

Day 35: Zimbabwe; Gwango

Today we had breakfast at 7 so we had to leave for 8am to head on our journey to Zimbabwe!! We first went to the immigration  point to exit Zambia. This didn't take too long. After leaving Zambia we drove over the Victorian falls bridge to head to the Zimbabwe side. We then headed to the Zimbabwe immigration and we had to pay 30 us for a visa. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get our passports back. We all headed back to the truck and Elton got all of our passports. The visa wasn't just a boring old stamp it looked like a proper visa which was cool to have in my passport!!!

After leaving immigration It was a 6 hour drive to our campsite called Gwango. It has only been open for 2 months and it was awesome. Because the campsite is still new it hasn't been fully complete so a worker who has been there for 1 year and 7 months told us all about what the finished camp site is going to look like. He showed us where we were putting our tents up and where we were going to eat dinner at the bar.

After our little tour it was time for our first ever game drive. The national park was called Hwange. It is the largest national park in Zimbabwe.
We started at 3:30 and left the park at 6 pm because that's when it shut. I don't think this was the best time to do a game drive because the sun is at its hottest point and all the animals hid from us. We saw thousands of elephants (which I was happy with), 2 giraffes, 2 hippos in water, zebras, antelopes, deers, a eagle and an elephant carcass. We were Abit disappointed that we didn't see more animals. Oh well our next game drive is Kruger so that should be a thousand times better.

They gave us free dinner and are providing us with breakfast for the next day. Then we sat by the campfire. The place we are staying at tonight is in the middle of the national park so most the time lions and elephants come around the camp site searching for food. This freaked most of the people out from our group. I just thought it was awesome and wish that I did see a lion or elephant near my tent. Apparently they won't go near the tents unless there is food in there. So I made sure there was no food in our tent before we headed to bed.

Tomorrow we are heading to antelope park this is the home of the lions and you can walk with lions I'm soo excited !!!!!

Xx
