Day 27: Kande beach Malawi
Today we woke up at 7 to have breakfast at 8 but most of us were up having breakfast by 7:30 because we wanted to leave the campsite earlier than 9 so hopefully we get to the other camp site quicker. I quickly took photographs of the campsite before we left for Kande Beach.
We arrived at a large shopping centre and there was a grocery called shoprite our tour guide calls it shop shite because you can't get what your looking for. It was huge reminded me of a Coles the prices were exactly the same as Australia. They had more gluten free options which was good so I got like 3 packets of rice crackers. I also had to buy some cheap track pants because i didn't bring any and i know it will get pretty cold as from now. We spent an hour and a half there and then headed off to the camp site it's around a 3.5 hour drive to Kande beach.
Kande beach is incredible!! The camp site is right in front of beach and Kande island. There are hammocks that you can sun bake on and having a lovely view of the beach.
The beach is a Fresh Water beach. When I first got in the water I was amazed it wasn't salty. The water was really rough and it reminded me of the beach at surfers paradise back in Australia. There were tones of sand banks and waves that would through you all over the place.
There were little shop fronts outside the gate. Andrew and I thought it would be a good idea just to look at all the shops and see what each one had to offer. As soon as we walked out the gate people swarmed us and we got separated at two different stores. I got stuck playing this game and it was actually pretty cool. So I got roped into buying that. I thought I did some pretty good bargaining. He originally wanted 35 us and I got it down to 20 us. Then when I finished the game this guy showed me a map of Africa and it was pretty nice so I got that aswell. He wanted 30 us for the map but I said that I was paying 20 for a wood carving I wouldn't pay anymore than that so got the map for 15 us which I was pretty happy with. I told him which places to put on the map Egypt, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. I would collect these tomorrow. I didn't really like being in the store by myself if I had Andrew by my side I know I could have gotten it a lot cheaper. But it's hard getting hassled by yourself with no help.
The bar has these cool posters on the roof of the canopy and awesome carvings scattered all over the place. The bar also had an amazing view of the beach.
After we hung by the bar we started drinking some punch Elton made us and it was pretty strong. I should have really stopped after a couple. We played a dress up game that we had to choose a selection of clothes from a pile and then choose a name from Elton everyone had to dress up. Andrew wore a beautiful princess dress which he wore for the whole night it was pretty cold outside and Andrew got me and dressed me like a scare crow with a straw hat and everything. It was a pretty fun night and we played some drinking games which were different. I'm going to be sore in the morning because we have to fit in lots of things such as a village walk and snorkelling.
