Day 6: Aswan
Woke up at 3 am this morning had to be at the lobby ready to go for 3:30 am to head off on a day trip to a temple called Abu Simbil Temple which is Ramsis the second's temple where people can worship him. We had to wake up early because we had to wait for a convoy to drive with us and it took 3 hours to drive down to the temple.
The temple was huge. You couldn't take photographs inside but we could bring our cameras outside and take photographs around the outside of the temple which included statues of gods and Ramsis and Egyptian carvings all over the walls.
The Temple of Re-Harakhte (The Sun Temple of Ramsis II):
The main temple was dedicated to Ramsis II and to the four universal gods Ptah, Re-Harakhte, Amun-Re, and to Ramsis II himself. Of the seven temples he built, Abu Simbel is considered to be the most impressive.
This temple belonged to Nefertari's Ramsis's wife. The temple was about the third the size of Ramsis's temple. The outside was stunning and once again we couldn't take photographs inside the temple.
These were by far my favourite temples to visit. So many incredible carvings and ancient statues. Also there were these two dogs that were soo adorable but I didn't touch them even though it killed me not to hahah.
In the afternoon we went on a sail boat called the Feluca on the Nile it was so peaceful and exactly what we needed after a busy morning. We moved all our stuff from the Feluca to a motor boat then we jumped off the boat into the Nile and had a nice relaxing swim. It was actually pretty cold. It's weird to think that we were swimming in the locals main water system.
After the swim we went back on the boat and headed to the Nobien village this is by far one of my favourite places we have visited so far. The people were beautiful and not pushy like in Cairo or even Aswan. When we first arrived at the Nobien village we saw hundreds of camels on the sand and this is where we started our camel ride. Andrew was at the leader of the pack it got to his head a little bit haha and I was close behind him but then my camel slacked off coming second first to second last gahh silly camel haha oh well I was admiring the view while everyone was over taking me.
The village was full of beautiful coloured buildings not in the best condition but it made the best photographs. The locals were happy to get their photographs taken, this young girl selling necklaces loved being in front of the camera. These young boys were racing around on their bikes. Locals showed us how they created their products they were selling For example scarfs, sand jars Ect.
Hope you enjoyed hearing about my extremely long day today and hopefully tomorrow isn't so jammed packed!
Xx
