Day 26: Malawi
Today we had to wake up at 5 to have breakfast and get ready for our hike up the Nyika Mountain. Overall we walked 32km up and down the mountain. We went on the Livingstonia day Hike which also allowed you to go visit the Manchewe Waterfalls.
The mountain had such an amazing view of the lake Malawi. The lake was huge over 580 Kilometres long. We could also see where our camp site was on the ground. We started walking at 6 and got to the view point at the top of the mountain at 10 am.
Was a really tough walk up the mountain but pure determination got me up there.
From the view point we had to walk another hour to get to the waterfalls. We then went to the Manchewe falls which consisted of seeing two water falls and having the chance to swim in a safe part of the waterfall but by the time we wanted to have a swim the water was A bit choppy and it was starting to rain a little so no one swam. Under one of the waterfalls were was a cave you could go in and you could see the water splash over the cave it was incredible!
After the waterfalls we walked another hour to get to the town of Livingstonia. There were tones of things to see such as a museum, church, local shops, schools and a stone house. The locals were all so friendly and the children were adorable! The museum and the church had entrance fees and we weren't really that keen on going inside so we just took photographs on the outside.
On the way back down the mountain we went a different way we followed a path which was so slippery every time I stood any where I would just skid. Overall I only fell over once which I was pretty proud of. Thalia if your reading this you would have fallen over so many times hahah this mountain was a thousand times harder than the one in Egypt that we walked up!!!
We then went through short cuts down the mountain which were paths of rocks and tree trunk and roots that the locals made. Pretty sure it would have been quicker just to walk around the whole mountain again instead of the short cuts haha!
This was our tour guide's family. He also showed us his shop shortly after the tour and almost everyone brought something from him.
We didn't get back to the camp site for around 4. It was an extremely long day and honestly we just wanted to eat and then go straight to bed. Most of us got sore feeds, legs or even bums by falling over most the time. It was a tough day today but it was good to do something other than driving in a bus all day! Tomorrow we are packing up the truck and heading to candy beach in Malawi this is we're we can do lots of different activities such as snorkelling lake Malawi, cooking lessons, horse riding and doing a village walk.
