Day Twenty Five

Day 25: Lake Malawi

Today we woke up at 5:30 to get on the road for 6. We had to pack up all of our tents and make sure we didn't leave anything behind. I didn't really have a good nights sleep because it was pretty cold and our sleeping bags aren't that warm :/ it's only going to get worse!! The only thing going through my head now is "why did mum take out my track pants when we packed!!!" I tossed and turned all night and when I got warm enough I would move and instantly get cold. It was so annoying. On the other hand Andrew was out like a light globe! The whole night I was so envious of him.

When we got on the bus I layered up what I should have done last night but I forgot. I put two jumpers on and two pairs of pants and then slept on the bus In my sleeping bag. These were the best three hours sleep I have gotten in a while!! I woke up to the bus stopping and we started setting up for breakfast. At this stage the sun was so bright so I can really imagine myself sleeping anymore on the bus. We have a whole day of driving today I'm pretty sure it's a 12 hour drive today. Still doesn't beat the 17 hour drive we drove to Aswan from Cairo!! Luckily the truck is huge and everyone has their own seat to sleep in I also semi stole Andrews second seat by resting my feet up hahha!!

We made our way to Malawi and had to get entrance visas. As from a few weeks ago they brought in that you had to pay $75 us to get into Malawi but the first person who got the visa didn't say anything about money so we all got visas without paying ! Win! Well all except one American who had to pay $100us which is total bullshit! We started driving into Malawi then we went to a check point and this corrupt police officer who our tour guild said he was pretty drunk made us sit and wait in the bus for a good half an hour. It's because we all have individual visa and the tour guild didn't say that we were a group traveling. So we had to adventure to the police officers boss with the police man driving in the front seat. This was another half an hour drive. Soo annoying we have already been driving for 9 hours already. At the end of the day we are not paying the corrupt police officer and it is really disappointing! I was excepting Malawi to be a nice place were everyone smiles but going from first Impressions its just a corrupt country!! The truck driver talked to the boss and in the end we got a fine for $2800 which is ridiculous! Oh well now on our journey to our camp site finally.

It took us 3 hours to get to our camp site from the place the police man left us in. Before we got into the camp site there was another little check point and instead of a gate it was just traffic cones and they wouldn't let us through without something so our driver ended up giving him bananas hahah!!! Like seriously where the hell are we :p

The camp site is called Chatimba campsite. The camp site was stunning its right near lake Malawi and at night you can see thousands of stars in the sky. Tomorrow we are waking up early to go on a full day hike! 10 hours hiking woohhh :/ hopefully will get some awesome photographs of Malawi!

Xx
